Paint Mines Interpretive Center is a park with trails that explore a geological, archaeological, historical, and ecological treasure in the Dawson Formation that formed 55 million years ago. Native Americans mined minerals from this site to make pigments. Evidence shows this site was explored by humans up to 9,000 years ago. We will enjoy a nice drive to the park than walk the formations at your own speed. Afterward, we will drive to Calhan and have lunch at Karen’s Kafe and Stephanie’s Bar & Grill (one place, two names). Bring a camera!
